Improve Health & Wellbeing

Help Your Local Community!

We want to provide opportunities to help individuals achieve their goals and realise their potential, but we can only do this with your support.

We create opportunities for people to lead healthy and active lifestyles.

At Shrewsbury Town in the Community we want to provide as many opportunities for people to be more active, whether they’re young or young at heart.

Through our health and wellbeing sessions we aim to offer a variety of activities to cater to different lifestyles through programmes including the Lenny Lifestyle Project and Extra Time.

We would like to highlight Roy, who is a participant in our Extra Time sessions, and has grown a sense of purpose once again since attending. You can watch his incredible story to the right.

How we help

There were 8,585 people treated at hospitals in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin where “obesity was a factor” during 2017/18 compared to 3,025 in 2013/14, data from NHS Digital showed.

306,129 people were registered with a disability by the 2011 Shropshire census, meaning nearly 1 in 5 people had some form of disability.

We want to help reduce obesity numbers by providing programmes that promote an active lifestyle for all ages. This includes our Health & Wellbeing sessions, teaching in schools, and our after school programmes.

In addition to this we aim to cater to a wide number of disabilities through our sports sessions. We know that in the right environment a participant can flourish, and we want to be the ones to provide that.

What do we provide to help?

• We inspire children to adopt healthier lifestyles by providing sports coaching, health education and teaching resources for schools
• We increase enjoyment of Physical Education by providing mentoring support to non-PE specialists in schools.
• We address inequalities of participation in sport and physical activity by providing access to community sports for females, people with a disability and the elderly.
• We champion and raise awareness of the importance of healthy and active lifestyles amongst Shrewsbury Town supporters.
• We enhance our relationship with public and third sector health organisations to develop innovative community projects that encourage active and healthy lifestyles.

What’s next?

In partnership with Shrewsbury Primary Care Network (PCN) we will be delivering an exciting new ‘exercise on referral’ project as well as piloting a Children’s social prescribing project in South Shropshire. Finally, we continue to be one of the leading deliverers of the Holiday, Activity and Food (HAF) programme again in partnership with Shropshire Council; this will quite literally provide food and activity for thousands of children when not in school.
