Last week we saw a fantastic display of community spirit at our PL Kicks session as the group came together to purchase a new replica shirt for one participant who has been going through a family bereavement recently.

Two weeks ago, Connor Smith’s family received tragic news about the passing of his father. As a member of our PL Kicks community, Connor has regularly attended our sessions on Friday evenings, and is also now part of our Volunteer Academy,  helping out on Shrewsbury Town matchdays.

At Friday’s session the group gifted Connor a brand new Aston Villa replica shirt with his name on it to show their support to him during this difficult time.

Connor is now also planning to help organise a tournament at the Mercedes-Benz Football Hub to raise money for Shropshire Mind, in memory of his father. “I was really shocked that the lads had come together to buy me the shirt. It’s really helped to show me what sort of group I’m a part of and how much I was in their thoughts. I’m now working with Nigel to plan a tournament for 14-17 year olds to raise awareness for mental health issues. This is something I really think my Dad would have wanted me to do and for us all to support each other.”

PL Kicks takes place every Friday evening at The Grange Sports centre in Harlescott. Find out more information here.

We have taster sessions taking place next Saturday 7th March as part of our Community Day celebrations. Sign up for the taster sessions here and receive two free tickets to the Shrewsbury Town vs Oxford United fixture that day!
