Last week Shrewsbury Town in the Community were delighted with the announcement that the first team will be playing a pre-season friendly against Newport County at Ludlow Football Stadium on Wednesday 17th July.
Ludlow Football Stadium acts as Shrewsbury Town in the Community’s South Shropshire Hub, allowing for delivery of projects across the whole of the area, reaching over 6,000 participants.
The funds raised from the fixture will help improve the facility for participants and raise awareness of the work carried out by Shrewsbury Town in the Community in the area along with giving Town fans in the south of the county the opportunity to see the first team in action.
Shrewsbury Town in the Community’s Operations Manager, Steve Brotherwood, had this to say about the occasion.
“We are really looking forward to hosting the first team at Ludlow against Newport County in July. The support from Sam and the club is fantastic and it’s a really good opportunity for us to showcase the work we are doing in the south of the county. We will be giving away 500 tickets to Community partners and schools in the area to come and enjoy the occasion as well as working with local organisations to provide catering services in the fanzone for the game.”
The game is also a huge landmark for Shrewsbury Town in the Community as a whole, with Head of Community, Jamie Edwards hoping that this can lead to a pre-season fixture held at the stadium being a regular occurrence.
“This fixture has been our aspiration since we started delivering our projects in the South Shropshire area in 2015. We are really grateful to Sam and the first team in allowing this to happen. There is a huge Town following in the area and it is real reward for the staff who have worked so hard in delivering our projects across South Shropshire. Hopefully it will be a fantastic night and become an annual event.”
