This week some of our Advanced Development Centre age groups were given the opportunity to attend a 2-day residential trip to Aberystwyth University where they were able to play fixtures against local teams along with completing various workshops for football related fitness.

With over 60 participants from our 4 centres in Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Bridgnorth and Prees, the residential trip provided a great experience for everyone involved, allowing them to work on all aspects of their footballing development. The camp was split into two age ranges, with U8s-U10s taking part over Monday and Tuesday, and U11s-U12s arriving for the camp on Wednesday and Thursday.

Day 1 for both age groups saw the players take part in a morning training session before completing a classroom workshop on hydration using the excellent facilities at Aberystwyth University. In the afternoon they then played out fixtures against the academies of AFC Newtown and Aberystwyth Town. After an evening meal the squads then re-watched the games, completing a post-match analysis which saw a wonder save from our U8 goalkeeper, Charlie Mantle!

After a good night’s rest the teams were up bright and early for nutrition and game strategies workshops along with another morning training session before another round of fixtures in the afternoon!

We hope that everyone who took part had a fantastic time and found it to be a memorable experience, enhancing their development. Shrewsbury Town in the Community would like to say a big thank you to Aberystwyth University for hosting us, and Aberystwyth Town and AFC Newtown for playing in the fixtures against us.
