Partner Schools Tournament at Montgomery Waters Meadow

Yesterday our partner schools tournament took place at Montgomery Waters Meadow, giving local schools the rare opportunity to play on the hallowed turf at the home of Shrewsbury Town FC.

The morning began as the teams lined up on the pitch and were assigned their groups with the winners progressing from each into the midday final. Over 100 pupils took part with teams representing Greenacres, Wilfred Own, Mereside, St Winefrides, Condover, St Edwards, Oakmeadow, Severndale, and Coleham Primary schools.

St Winefrides ended up as the winners of a closely fought game with Oakmeadow, who claimed 2nd and 3rd spot with two separate teams entered.

After a short changeover the afternoon action was underway for our Secondary School tournament between Meole Brace and Shrewsbury Academy with over 150 participants including boys and girls, taking part. Games took place between all age groups from Year 7 – Year 11 with each school earning points from each game between each age group.

The day finished with Meole Brace as overall winners in a very competitive round of fixtures.

Our Community Sports manager, John Rix, said the day was, “a great way of us giving another extra treat to our partner schools by allowing them to come and play on the pitch here and it will be a memory these pupils will cherish for a long time.”

We would like to thank all of the schools and pupils who took part in the event and hope that they enjoyed this fantastic opportunity. To find out how your school could get involved next year, come to our School Conference on 22nd May where you can also discover what else we offer our partner schools.
