Shrewsbury Town in the Community are immensely proud of our schools team this week. Despite the trying circumstances they have continued to support in schools where they have been essential to helping keep schools open for the children of key workers, helping to provide a range of activities and support for school staff.

This week members of our schools team have been out delivering in local primary and secondary schools helping to ensure sufficient staffing levels so that schools can continue to open their doors for the children of key workers. They have been helping with a range of different delivery, providing PE sessions in-between regular curriculum activity, and running special events where appropriate.

At Lakelands Academy, our partner schools officer organised a Inter-House tennis tournament, to keep spirits up and allow for some friendly competition and at Shrewsbury Academy staff were supported with curriculum delivery and some physical activities to give pupils a break during the day.

Meanwhile at Primary Schools, just some of the schools we have visited include Crowmoor, Coleham, St John’s, Baschurch and Bomere Heath. Sessions were adapted to make sure they followed the social distancing guidelines set out by the government but we were still able to deliver fun activities designed to keep children active, with fun challenges, arts + crafts and some outdoors skills taking advantage of the great weather.

Our partner schools have also been supported by being provided with a resource pack designed by our coaches to send to children now learning from home to make sure they stay engaged with sport and keep active with a variety of different challenges, including our Four Minute Fitness Blast with Lenny which can be found below!

In case you missed it we are providing support to parents and young people stuck at home during these unprecedented times with our brand-new Shrews @ Home programme, which acts as a resource centre with daily challenges and activities to keep children entertained and engaged.
