Shrewsbury Town stadium

With the start of the new season for many of our community teams we will be starting to provide weekly updates on how their seasons are progressing so that everyone can stay up to date with how all of our squads are getting on.

So, how are things looking so far this season?

Shrewsbury Town Women 1 – 3  Leek Town

Firstly we turn to Shrewsbury Town Women who were looking to progress in the Women’s FA Cup on Sunday after as they took on Leek Town at the Community Hub Pitch. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and after a strong start to the season winning their two opening games, the team fell to a second successive defeat. Shrews battled well throughout the game and had the chances to get back into it after Olivia Minshall pulled one back from the spot, however despite the effort the team couldn’t find a way through.

Academy Shadow Squads

U13s – Shrewsbury Town 5 – 0 Redditch Borough

Our U13s team maintained their perfect start to the season, putting in a dominant performance at home against Redditch Borough as they won 5-0 at home with Corby Jo Pickin bagging a hat-trick and Marley Woodcock getting a brace to round the victory off.

U14s – Mercia Juniors 3 – 0 Shrewsbury Town

The U14s side have made a mixed start to their campaign and have now won one and lost two of their opening three games after defeat away at Mercia Juniors.

U15s – Shrewsbury Town 4 – 2 – Newcastle Town Jnrs

Goals from William Jervis, Ethan Stanway and two from Michael Northwood saw the U15s team see off Newcastle Town and keep their 100% record in tact after three games.

BTEC Squads

Elite Squad – Doncaster Rovers 7 – 2 Shrewsbury Town

The trip up to Doncaster for our Elite squad proved to be a disappointing start to the season as they fell to a heavy defeat. Doncaster played a quick and direct style which Town’s defence struggled to keep up with leading to the goals. Despite playing some good football out from the back despite many playing together for the first time, with a standout performance from Fin Greenhouse. However the team struggled in the final third. Town’s goals came from Carl Murch and Olly McDougall.

Development Squad – Shrewsbury Town 0 – 5 Idsall

A physical Idsall side proved to be too much for our first year students in their second game of the season. however the team kept battling until the final whistle. Town goalkeeper Aaron Greenway made several fantastic 1-on-1 saves along with stopping a penalty and Lucas Goldbourn also made some outstanding tackles and was impressive in being able to play his way out of trouble when needed.

A mixed set of results for our teams last week, but there has been plenty of promise shown and some good football on display with the commitment and effort of all teams never in doubt.
