Director of Children and Young People’s Services, Shropshire Council

Career Background: 

Following graduation Karen trained and then worked as a Careers Adviser for a number of years before becoming the Chief Executive of the Connexions Service for Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin. Karen transferred into Shropshire Council as Assistant Director for Youth Support, then was appointed as Assistant Director for Learning & Skills, before being appointed as Director of Children’s Services in April 2013.

Outside of work:

Karen enjoys being outdoors, walking and the gym (“although not as often as I should!”). She also likes going to the theatre, and married with two children – together with work this occupies much of her time!

Why she is a trustee at STITC: 

“I am passionate about young people and helping them achieve as much as they can and to have the best life that they can. STITC supports opportunities for personal and social development, all important and intrinsic elements that support young people and enable them to develop.”
